Geetha Mahendran Residence
Trichy
Description
The site is located in the outskirts. The client approached with a minimal requirement for a 2bhk independent house with office space and a limited budget. The design evolved with site conditions, client requirements, and vastu compliance in the listed order of priority. The usage of natural materials and finishes that complements the modern lifestyle was the weaving thread that refined the design decisions.
Public, semi-public, and private spaces are articulated to ensure privacy yet allow visual and physical permeability. The spaces are naturally lit and provide cross-ventilation opportunities and carefully located landscape corners to emulate a calm indoor environment.
The biggest challenge is the implementation. Along with the local mason team, we tested new materials, conducted on-site experiments, and learned new construction techniques with expert guidance. With an experimental approach, including but not limited to filler slabs, rammed earth wall, exposed porotherm wall, and oxide finish plaster, the house has been crafted as a space with comfort and elegance.
